10. Wes Miller – Cincinnati

He may have not been one of the stars, but Miller won a national championship as a player at North Carolina back in 2005. After his playing career came to an end, he got right into coaching, with stints on a few mid-major staffs on the east coast. He joined the UNC Greensboro staff in 2010 and became their head coach at age 28 less than two seasons later. Miller turned the Spartans into a fantastic mid-major power, leading them to a pair of NCAA Tournaments before heading to Cincinnati.

Miller averaged 25 wins per year in his final five years in Greensboro, though he hasn’t yet gotten Cincinnati playing at that level. His first two years with the Bearcats haven’t been bad, but he’s still looking for his first trip to the Big Dance in Cincinnati. The Bearcats did win 23 games and advanced a few rounds into the NIT last season, with higher hopes for the near future.

Miller was fantastic in those final seasons with the Spartans, but this is an entirely different animal in the Big 12. Rebuilding Cincinnati wasn’t going to happen overnight and it’s been a solid start for the Bearcats, part of the reason why Miller is ahead of some of the other coaches on this list. His time to prove himself is now, especially with the Bearcats half a decade removed from a trip to the Big Dance.
