NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking final 6 teams for FIU transfer Denver Jones
2. Florida State Seminoles
FSU recently lost starting guard Caleb Mills to the transfer portal, now currently at Memphis. That leaves senior guard Darin Green Jr. (if he takes a 5th year), and point guard Jalen Warley, who has a career scoring average of 5.3 ppg in two years. After a rough past season, there’s a major need for consistent production.
Jones would be able to come in and be a leading guard in the Seminoles’ offense and play next to a pass-first point guard, which is different from the other options on this list. And the ACC would be a better fit for the guard compared to the SEC as well.
1. Auburn Tigers
The Tigers made the NCAA Tournament this past season on the strength of its defense, despite some issues in the backcourt. They’ve broken up the guard duo of K.D. Johnson and Wendell Green Jr., with the ladder having recently entered the transfer portal. The team does have five-star point guard Aden Holloway but there’s still a need for a scoring guard.
Jones would be a perfect addition to Auburn, which is another local option for the transfer. He can start immediately and be a leading scorer, while also playing under Coach Bruce Pearl, who has a good history with guards. If the SEC ends up being his destination, the Tigers would make the most sense.
