NCAA Basketball: 10 teams with most pressure to score in 2023 transfer portal
10. Villanova Wildcats
The first year of the Kyle Neptune era didn’t go very smoothly, with the team going .500 both overall and in Big East play. Overall, I’d say he was given a pass due to the team’s best player, Justin Moore, missing half the year.
The good news is that Moore is set to return, giving them a star to lead the way. They’re waiting on what senior big man Eric Dixon does but regardless, there are still some key moves that need to be made. The biggest is at point guard, which was a main area of weakness. Moore played point when he returned but he’s best as an off-guard.
Villanova also needs another go-to scorer on offense to replace Cam Whitmore, who is off to the pros. The team only has one newcomer to this point in forward Jordann Dumont and there’s going to be a need for more additions via the portal. And the program doesn’t have much of a history of adding more than a transfer or two so it’ll be interesting who they bring this offseason.
With the Big East having three way-too-early top-10 teams in the national power rankings and several big coaching changes already this offseason, Coach Neptune and Villanova will be on the map next season. Back-to-back bad years would be concerning for the program so the next couple of months will be key to see who they add alongside Moore.
