8. Oklahoma Sooners

As good as the Big 12 was as a whole, someone had to finish at the bottom of the standings. That team was Oklahoma, who was 5-13 in league play and ended up being the lone program not to finish over .500 overall on the season. And it’s going to be a major roster upheaval going forward, as Grant Sherfield and Tanner Groves are two of the many departures.

That leaves just Milos Uzan and Otega Uweh as building blocks to work with for the Sooners. They also will be adding top-40 guard, Kaden Cooper as well. The guards are good enough to compete at the Big 12 level but the frontcourt needs major work this offseason.

Things are only going to get harder for the program in its last season in the Big 12, as Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and UCF are joining. And it won’t get any tougher in the SEC in the future afterward either.

Coach Porter Moser has a great resume coming from Loyola-Chicago. But can he recruit at the level needed to succeed at the Big 12 or SEC? This offseason, with essentially a clean slate roster-wise to work with, will be a determining factor. Not that he’d be on the hot seat but that a narrative could begin with him if the Sooners still don’t have a squad good enough to compete.
