There were a number of coaching changes that occurred this NCAA Basketball offseason. One of them happened at Utah State, where head coach Ryan Odom accepted a job at VCU. It’s resulted in a few Aggies entering the transfer portal, including its best player, Steven Ashworth.
After two years of serving an LDS mission, Ashworth went to Utah State. In the three years since the 6’1 guard has slowly become one of the top players in the Mountain West. This past season as a full-time starter, the guard led the Aggies with 16.2 ppg and 4.5 apg. He shot 46% from the field and 43% from three-point range on over seven attempts a game.
Ashworth was in double figures for 31 of 35 games, scoring 20+ points on seven different occasions. That included a combined 57 points in two games against Oral Roberts and Utah Tech, making a combined 15 three-pointers. He went 8/17 from deep in a game against Colorado State in a win, along with 27 points and seven assists in a road win over UNLV. The guard had nine assists on two different occasions as well.
He’s one of the top true shooters in the entire transfer portal and after the coaching change, it makes sense that Ashworth is gone. The native of Alpine, Utah going to get a ton of interest from teams and there are already a few that makes sense. He has one year of eligibility remaining as well.
Here’s a closer look at six programs that would make the most sense for his services.
