NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 6 teams that should target Utah State transfer Steven Ashworth
BYU Cougars
The Cougars are slumping into the Big 12 after going under .500 in WCC play. They lost guard Rudi Williams and will need as much talent as possible to compete. Ashworth’s shooting would be a massive boost alongside returning guards, Spencer Johnson and Jaxson Robinson. He’d also be better as a starting point guard than Dallin Hall since he has more experience.
This is also simply a great fit culturally. Ashworth’s religion co-insides with Brigham Young University and is just miles away from where he’s currently at. He can stay home and go from the Mountain West to the Big 12 and play a massive role with the team.
Duke Blue Devils
The Blue Devils were a team that offered Ashworth out of high school and the then-assistant Jon Scheyer is now in charge. For his last year, the guard would be able to play on one of the biggest stages in all of NCAA Basketball, if he’s willing to take on a lesser role. Not like the one that Jacob Grandison had but rather Ryan Young if we’re comparing last year’s transfers.
There’s a shooting need on the roster for Duke but this option would only matter if Jeremy Roach goes pro. If he stays, then the backcourt of him and Tyrese Proctor would be set. If not, this would be a prime and gettable target for the team.
