Oregon Ducks

The Ducks are without starting guard Will Richardson, one of several rotation players gone this offseason. They have a top-50 incoming point guard in Jackson Shelstad but considering that they’re likely starting two other freshmen in five-star commits Mookie Cook and Kwame Evans, it makes more sense to have a veteran lead the backcourt.

Ashworth is one of the best players from out west available and Oregon may not be able to land one of the many proven commodities in the portal. He’d be able to play in the Pac-12 for a good coach in Dana Altman and get to be a focal point of the offense as well.

San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs were already a program that has had success in the transfer portal, with Matt Bradley and Darrion Trammell as examples. Those examples led them to the national title game and the first Final Four appearance in program history. And with guys like Bradley and Seiko gone, there’s a need for more backcourt players.

Ashworth gives San Diego State needed offensive pop and he’d be able to stay in a Mountain West Conference that he already excels. It’s a risk to move up to the power conference level at times and the safest option, while having an increased chance at winning, would be the Aztecs.
