Utah Utes

There’s another former head coach out there that Ashworth could reunite with and that’s just miles away at Utah. Craig Smith was his first head coach at Utah State before leaving a couple of years ago and there certainly is a need for a talent like this transfer to plug in.

Utah does have a returning point guard in Rollie Worster (5.0 apg) but he and Ashworth could work together in the backcourt. And there’s definitely a need for more shooting after losing Lazar Stefanovic to UCLA via the portal. The familiarity aspect is the biggest selling point for the Utes.

VCU Rams

The other option that will obviously be in consideration is Ashworth following Coach Odom to the Rams. The Atlantic 10 is currently in shambles thanks to transfer departures and other coaching moves so it’s not very steep for VCU to get back to being competitive quickly.

Ashworth could come in as an early favorite for A-10 Player of the Year and play in the system that made him successful. If the player and coach can bring others from Utah State’s roster over, the Rams could have a great shot at making the NCAA Tournament once again.
