NCAA Basketball: Top 10 way-too-early best bets to win 2024 national title
7. Memphis Tigers – +7500
I know folks are tired of Memphis getting preseason love every single year since Coach Penny Hardaway arrived to town. And they are losing most of the roster, including big man DeAndre Williams and star point guard, Kendric Davis. The good news is they have an elite incoming recruiting class, with six freshmen set to arrive.
One of them is Mikey Williams, who at one point, was viewed as the No. 1 overall prospect. His stock slipped slightly but is still a five-star prospect. The team also brought in four transfers, including D-II star, Jonathan Pierre. He’s a 6’10 “guard” that had a recent growth spurt that has him built like a forward with perimeter skills.
Memphis added Florida State starting guard Caleb Mills in the past week but there are some rumors out there that the team could be adding someone soon. After Donovan Clingan announced his return to UConn, that sparked some talk that Adama Sanogo, who led the Huskies in scoring and rebounding en route to winning a national championship, could enter the transfer portal if he doesn’t go pro.
The Tigers have some connections to Sanogo and would be the potential favorite if that were to happen. In this scenario, the odds of Memphis winning a national title would certainly be higher than it is right now. If you’re a believer in the rumor mill, maybe you should take a peek at Memphis before the news drops. Besides, you know they’ll grab one of the other available centers in the portal anyways.
