Alabama Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets BJ Mack, Tylor Perry, and Aaron Estrada
BJ Mack – Wofford Terriers
2022-23 season stats: 16.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.4 apg
The 6’8 forward has been one of the top players in the SoCon for the past two years and actually had even better stats as a junior, including making 45% of his three-point attempts. Mack’s efficiency dipped this past season (36% 3PT) but he still remained a consistent offensive force.
Mack had at least eight points in every game, including a season-high 28 points and 10 rebounds on the road against UNC Greensboro, which included 5/8 from three-point range. He’s one of the better power forwards in the entire transfer group and has one year left of eligibility.
Mack was one of the earliest players to come out with a list of options, which included Alabama among the five. The others were Arkansas, Iowa, LSU, and South Carolina. The Hawkeyes recently landed Valpo transfer Ben Krikke, who can play the 4 or 5-spot. Arkansas has landed four perimeter transfers but none in the frontcourt, though Trevon Brazile is set to come back next year.
The Gamecocks have recently landed their own transfer from the SoCon in Stephen Clark, who averaged 16.3 ppg and 6.5 rpg this past season at The Citadel. That likely takes them out of the mix, while LSU has landed three transfers but not a power forward. From a playing time standpoint, Alabama and LSU seem like the top options but with a visit coming from Mack, it could be the Tide that wins out.
