Alabama Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets BJ Mack, Tylor Perry, and Aaron Estrada
Raequan Battle – Montana State Bobcats
2022-23 season stats: 17.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.9 apg
Battle was a former top-100 prospect out of the 2019 recruiting class that originally played at Washington. But after two years of limited minutes, he transferred over to Montana State. After another year coming off the bench, the 6’5 guard finally had his chance to shine in extended minutes as a starter and led his team not only in points but also to a Big Sky Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The veteran playmaker was in double figures in 31 of 35 games this past season, including scoring 20+ points on 11 occasions. That includes a career-high 32-point effort on the road at Sacramento State, as well as 25 points to beat Northern Arizona to cash a ticket to the Big Dance. And Battle proved that he can score against power conference opponents as well, dropping 27 points versus Kansas State in the Round of 64.
Battle has only recently put his name into the transfer portal so his recruiting process has truly just begun. He came from the state of Washington so he’s primarily been on the west coast his entire college career. But with one more year of eligibility, he should be willing to go just about anywhere.
His size makes him a true option to play on the wing, a position that’s not open for Alabama. And he doesn’t need the ball in his hands as a playmaker, other than making buckets. Depending on what happens with both Perry and Estrada, Battle could be a new priority target for the program.
