Michigan Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets Matthew Cleveland, Olivier Nkamhoua, Hunter Dickinson
Matthew Cleveland – Florida State Seminoles
2022-23 season stats: 13.8 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.8 apg
As bad as North Carolina, there was an even bigger disappointment in the ACC this past season. Florida State was a preseason NCAA Tournament team but ended up with nine total wins due to injuries. Their best player overall was Cleveland, a former five-star prospect with NBA potential.
The 6’7 wing played out of position this past season at the four-spot and ended up leading them in rebounding. Cleveland had four games with at least 20 points, including a 23-point and 13-rebound performance versus St. John’s. More importantly, the sophomore doubled his three-point shooting numbers from just 17% as a freshman to 35% this year.
When Cleveland entered the portal, Michigan Basketball instantly became a team that everyone looked at. Two years ago, Coach Juwan Howard and the Wolverines were a finalist for his services and nearly won him out of high school.
This would be a second chance of sorts to get him back and he’d be the ideal replacement on the wing for both Jett Howard and Joey Baker, who recently announced his intentions to go pro as well. Look out for Auburn, who also will be in the mix for Cleveland but right now, the Wolverines should be a finalist once again.
