Michigan Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets Matthew Cleveland, Olivier Nkamhoua, Hunter Dickinson
Hunter Dickinson – Michigan Wolverines
2022-23 season stats: 18.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 1.5 apg
It feels crazy to do a slide for a transfer article that “technically” includes a current player. But after landing Caleb Love, the reports are that Michigan Basketball still is in contact with the star center. And while fans may be annoyed, Dickinson is a good enough player to welcome him back with open arms.
Dickinson has been one of the best players in college basketball for the past two seasons, and even at an All-American level. This is the same Michigan star that dropped 31 points to survive an upset bid against Eastern Michigan, as well as 31 points and 16 rebounds at Illinois in overtime. He’s an outstanding post scorer that also became efficient from three-point range, making 42% on 57 attempts.
The big man has been linked instantly with Maryland and Georgetown as soon as he entered the transfer portal. The Hoyas hired Coach Ed Cooley and have been looking to make a big splash, while the Terrapins recently hired Dickinson’s former high school head coach at DeMatha. Another option has reportedly emerged at Kansas, who could be having the big man for a visit next week.
The pressure is on Michigan to make a compelling statement for Dickinson to return. Landing both Cleveland and Nkamhoua to add to the starting lineup would be a big move but they better do it soon to become more appealing. That transfer saga of Dickinson is arguably the most important of the entire offseason and it’ll impact not only the Wolverines but the other teams involved.
