It’s another week of NCAA Basketball commitments out of the transfer portal, with over 60 players have made their decisions. A few of them actually went back to their old teams such as Robert Jennings (Texas Tech), Keegan Records (Colgate), and Jamiya Neal (Arizona State).
I’ve normally done weekly portal pickup pieces with the top 20 players but due to a ton of talent going to power conference programs, I’ll be extending to 30 players this time around. Of course, there still will be a few honorable mentions as well.
Here’s a look at the players that have a new NCAA Basketball home.
*List was made before Sunday commitments of Aly Khalifa (BYU) and Quincy Olivari (Rice)
Honorable Mention: Harlond Beverly – Miami to Wichita State
After averaging 5.3 ppg in four years, the former top-100 prospect will be going to the AAC. Beverly saw his playing time decrease after his first two seasons once Miami added backcourt transfers but still is a capable combo guard that can run the offense for the new-look Shockers.
HM: Jae’lyn Withers – Louisville to North Carolina
The 6’8 forward has started 64 games in the past three seasons but clearly, Withers and Louisville needed new starts. After averaging 10.0 ppg as a redshirt freshman, his stats have dipped to 8.9 ppg this past year, shooting 42% from deep. Withers is a capable floor spacer and can play both the 3 and 4 positions at UNC after losing all of its forwards this offseason.
HM: Jeremiah Davenport – Cincinnati to Arkansas
The four-year senior guard averaged 13.4 ppg a year ago but saw his role decrease a bit, putting up just 9.1 ppg on 35% shooting from the field. He joins a now-crowded backcourt at Arkansas but can provide some big scoring bursts. Davenport went for 22 points against Wichita State and 20 versus Tulsa on 4/8 shooting from deep.
HM: Chuck Harris – Butler to SMU
Harris was a three-year starter at Butler, averaging in double figures in all of them. He’s a career 34% three-point shooter and dropped a career-high 32 points against Tennessee Tech, though he tailed off in the final 10 games of the season. He joins a backcourt at SMU that has some potential, with returning leading scorer Zhuric Phelps coming back.
