After a two-day visit to Rhode Island Basketball, Quinnipiac guard Luis Kortright verbally committed to Coach Archie Miller and the Rams on Sunday.

With Ishmael Leggett, Jalen Carey, Sebastian Thomas, Brayon Freeman, and Louis Hutchinson in the portal, one of Rhode Island’s most significant priorities this offseason has been to add guard depth and strengthen their backcourt. The Rams continued to fulfill that need with the recent addition of Quinnipiac guard Luis Kortright.

Luis Kortright is a rising senior from Manhattan, New York, and has spent the last three seasons with the Bobcats in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

This past season, the 6-foot-3 guard led Quinnipiac in rebounds (4.1) and assists (3.9). He averaged 10.3 points and shot 38.9 percent, appearing in ten starts and 31 games.

He also performed well in Quinnipiac’s season-opener on November 7th in a 67-62 victory at the Ryan Center over Rhode Island, contributing 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and five steals.

Kortright takes a leap from the MAAC Conference to a competitive mid-major in the Atlantic 10 to join a Rams team that underperformed last season in year one of the Archie Miller era.

The Rams have been busy recruiting this offseason with the additions of JUCO transfer Tyson Brown, High Point guard Jaden House, Bradley guard Zek Montgomery, and now Quinnipiac guard Luis Kortright. Rhode Island will continue to fill its roster and build a solid incoming class for the 2023-24 season.

Rhode Island will have to continue to attack the transfer portal and explore all avenues to fill the two remaining open scholarships on its roster. Assistants Kenny Johnson and Duane Woodward have led the recruitment trail this offseason for the Rams.

We can expect URI to have a more well-rounded team this season as opposed to last, as they have brought in players that precisely fit Archie Miller’s style rather than inherit players from the previous coaching staff. It appears those dark clouds looming over Kingston are beginning to pass.
