Auburn Basketball transfer target – Matthew Cleveland (Florida State)

There are lots of former five-star prospects in the transfer portal that didn’t get a ton of playing time at their previous spots. Auburn’s own Traore is one of them. But what about sophomore transfers that have proven themselves as starters at the power conference level?

That’s Cleveland, who has become one of the hottest names in the portal. He’s a 6’7 wing that has played three different positions at Florida State for each of the past two years. Due to frontcourt injuries, the former ACC 6th Man of the Year played mostly at the power forward position.

It resulted in Cleveland leading the team with 13.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg, shooting 45% from the field and 35% from three-point range. And while those percentages from deep may not seem super appealing, that’s actually doubled from his freshman season. He’s capable of scoring from anywhere on the court and is a solid defender as well.

Auburn has started both Chris Moore and Allen Flanigan at the wing this past season and Cleveland would be an upgrade there. It’s not known what Flanigan will do regarding a 5th year so either way, there could be plenty of minutes, no matter what Devan Cambridge opts to do.
