Auburn Basketball transfer target – Kario Oquendo (Georgia)

The 6’4 guard was one of the top players in the 2021 JUCO class out of Florida Southwestern State College and became an instant impact player at Georgia. He led the team with 15.2 ppg and 4.3 rpg over a year ago, including a 33-point and seven-rebound performance against Texas A&M.

After a coaching change and roster rebuild, Oquendo’s numbers took a dip this past season. He averaged 12.7 ppg while making just 39% of his shots from the field and 27% from three-point range. He still had four 20+ point games, including 22 against Chattanooga.

The numbers for Oquendo aren’t great, especially his percentages. However, what he has going for him is that the former Bulldog guard is a proven double-digit scorer at the SEC level, which is not an easy thing to do. Right now, he’s more proven than Denver Jones at that level.

If you’re Auburn and you still have questions about your backcourt, Oquendo is a reasonable add and he does have the size to even play some at the three-spot. But that inefficiency could be a tough sell if you’re trying to move on from the past two seasons.
