Auburn Basketball transfer target – Russel Tchewa (South Florida)

Technically, the Tigers’ frontcourt is set for next year in Broome and Williams. Also technically, both of them could move on as well. It’s a tough spot for the program because, with Traore gone, they need frontcourt depth no matter what. But do they need starters or depth pieces?

A player that could fit both scenarios is Tchewa. He’s a 7’0 and 260-pound big man out of Cameroon who originally started at Texas Tech. He transferred to South Florida, where he’s played for the past three years. Two of them as a starter, coming off a career-high 11.1 ppg and 8.6 rpg as a senior.

Tchewa has had several big games, including 20 points and 12 rebounds against Temple, along with a career-high 15 rebounds versus Tulane. He was a good player at the AAC level but likely isn’t much of a starter in the SEC. However, he can play 20 mpg off the bench for Auburn, though Broome isn’t playing at the four-spot so that wouldn’t work out.

This is likely a player that the Tigers are keeping tabs on depending on what the starting frontcourt players do. If one leaves, this makes more sense. Otherwise, they probably try for another big that can play multiple positions.
