Auburn Basketball transfer target – Jaylon Tyson (Texas Tech)

After losing a couple of targets this week, it looks like the Tigers have one more option. And it’s a wing in Tyson, a former Texas and Texas Tech player that’s already had a journey in college basketball. The redshirt freshman started all 31 games this past season, averaging 10.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg, shooting 48% from the field and 40% from three-point range.

Tyson’s role wasn’t too large among the starters but he’s had some big games this past season. That includes a 19-point and 12-rebound game against Baylor, as well as a season-high 27 points on 11/15 shooting from the field on the road at West Virginia. He’s the kind of player that with a bigger role could be a star at his next stop.

Tyson is a better overall player than Cambridge and arguably better than Cleveland too, simply because of the shooting. However, this is his second transfer since he originally started at Texas before going back to then-head coach Mark Adams. He should be able to play next season but between the confusing NCAA rules on how they do waivers now and wondering if this does qualify as a second transfer, it’s not 100% sure if Tyson is eligible.

Regardless, it’s a risk that’s worth taking for a player with three years of eligibility like Tyson, who would solve the issue at small forward for them.
