Impact of Nick Timberlake not joining UConn

If you’ve been following this recruitment, a team had emerged as a consensus favorite for the Towson transfer. And that was the reigning national champions, who were the “local” option for the Massachusetts native. They had plenty of momentum and just had Jordan Hawkins star for them, now off to the NBA as a projected lottery pick.

And with Nahiem Alleyne transferred out to St. John’s, there definitely would’ve been room for Timberlake had he joined them. Yet there were also some open questions for a few players on the roster, as Tristen Newton, Andre Jackson, and Adama Sanogo are currently in the NBA Draft process and could either come or go.

That could’ve been what helped turn the top transfer towards Kansas, as they only have to deal with what McCullar is doing in the process. Both teams are projected top-10 teams for the WTE power rankings for 2023-24 so there weren’t too many differences anyways.

Still, don’t cry too much for the Huskies. Regardless of what the veteran guards do, they still have five-star freshman guard Stephon Castle joining the team and they’re going to be a destination for another top shooting guard option. He may not be as good as Nick Timberlake is but UConn will find a way to land someone of near quality.
