Maryland Terrapins

Zach Edey was both the Big Ten and National Player of the Year this past season. The only player that’s better than him is Hunter Dickinson whenever he plays Maryland. There’s a public grudge he has against the program due to them not recruiting him out of high school despite being a local target. The big man has torched them ever since, including going for 32 points and 12 rebounds in the first meeting this past season.

But, maybe there’s water under the bridge between both sides. New head coach Kevin Willard has made a clear effort to target the DMV area and is coming off taking the Terrapins to the NCAA Tournament in his first season. And unlike Georgetown, this is a roster that already has top-25 potential, thanks to three of the top four scorers set to come back.

Guard and leading scorer Jahmir Young is back for a 5th year, joined by forwards Donta Scott and Julian Reese. The question here is whether Dickinson can play alongside Reese in the frontcourt since the veteran forward doesn’t space the floor. Yet Reese can be a forward on defense, while Dickinson can be the four-man on offense.

It’s not the perfect fit and that may be what prevents the big man from joining Maryland. Still, they probably have a better shot than the Hoyas.
