6. Illinois Fighting Illini

There always seem to be some level of roster questions with the Illini and that remains now. The status of star guard Terrence Shannon Jr. is uncertain as he enters the NBA Draft process, along with forward Coleman Hawkins. But even with said questions, the team has managed to find a pair of pickups that’ll help the roster, no matter who is back,

The first transfer was Marcus Domask, a four-year starter that has consistently been a star at Southern Illinois. He averaged a team-leading 16.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 3.8 apg this past season, making 45% from the field and 35% from three-point range. The 6’6 wing and three-time All-MVC performer had a pair of 32-point games and is a very capable passer as well.

The other newcomer is Justin Harmon, a 6’4 transfer guard from Utah Valley. The senior guard played 37 games this past season, averaging 14.0 ppg and 2.9 apg, and had a 32-point game himself at New Mexico in the NIT. Harmon shot 34% from three-point range and is a creator on offense on the perimeter.

While Illinois still has to deal with the point guard situation and whether or not Shannon comes back, they now have a pair of veteran guards capable of being players. So it’s a good start but plenty of work to be done.
