West Virginia Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets RaeQuan Battle, CJ Fredrick, and Olivier Nkamhoua
West Virginia Basketball transfer target – RaeQuan Battle (Montana State)
Battle is a former top-100 prospect that was a role player off the bench at both Washington and Montana State. But the 6’5 guard had a breakout campaign as a senior, leading the team with 17.7 ppg on 47% shooting and 35% from three-point range. He had 20 points against Oregon, 32 versus Sacramento State, and 27 in the Round of 64 matchup against Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament.
West Virginia’s shot-creators are mid-major transfers and that’s a risk to take. Battle would qualify for that as well but he is an elite athlete and now a proven D-I scorer. He’s someone with one year left that the team can take with high upside and provides different aspects that the other players on the roster don’t.
West Virginia Basketball transfer target – CJ Fredrick (Kentucky)
The former Iowa and Kentucky guard battled injuries in the past two seasons. Fredrick averaged 6.1 ppg with the Wildcats with 15 starts, shooting just 32% from three-point range. That was a far cry from his 46% shooting average in his first two seasons with the Hawkeyes.
Assuming he’s fully healthy, Fredrick would be a nice rotation player for the Mountaineers and get plenty of minutes. He’d pair nicely in the backcourt with Kriisa and is a proven power conference contributor. And the spacing the senior guard can provide would be a needed boost to round out the lineups.
