West Virginia Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets RaeQuan Battle, CJ Fredrick, and Olivier Nkamhoua
West Virginia Basketball frontcourt targets
Olivier Nkamhoua was a reported contact by the team but that was around the time when Tre Mitchell’s status was in question. With him back and commanding the main minutes at the four-spot, it’s hard to see West Virginia having a shot here. He could play some minutes at the three-spot and did drop 27 points against Duke in the NCAA Tournament but there are better options for him elsewhere.
Quincy Guerrier recently entered the portal from Oregon after two underwhelming seasons. His best year was as a sophomore at Syracuse where he averaged 13.7 ppg and 8.4 rpg. He’s a former teammate of recent commit Jesse Edwards and he’s versatile enough to play on the wing and provide size in the lineup. But his stock has certainly declined since leaving the ACC.
The most recent contact for West Virginia is Naheem McLeod, a center transfer from Florida State. He only averaged just 3.8 ppg and 2.7 rpg in 13 mpg and 11 starts but what literally separates him from everyone else outside of Jamarion Sharp is his 7’4 and 250-pound frame.
McLeod doesn’t provide much offense and he isn’t even an elite rim protector but he’s a legit body and would be an ideal backup center behind Edwards. Without knowing what Jimmy Bell is doing now that he’s playing with the football team, adding the former Seminole makes sense to round out the frontcourt rotation.
