There have been plenty of talented players coming out of the NCAA Basketball transfer portal in the past week but there are some still out there looking for new homes. One of them is Noah Thomasson, one of the top-scoring remaining free agents.

Thomasson is a 6’3 guard out of Richmond, Texas, and started his career at Houston Christian in the Southland. After limited minutes there, he transferred over to Niagara, where he was able to break out. As a starter. the guard averaged 10.8 ppg and 3.4 apg on 45% shooting. Those numbers ballooned this past year to a team-leading 19.5 ppg and 3.5 apg, making a career-high 39% from three-point range.

The junior guard had a number of big outings, including 29 points against Central Arkansas and a career-high 35 versus Canisius. He had nine games of at least five assists so is a capable playmaker as well.

Thomasson’s recruitment is now in the late stages, down to five teams. He’s already visited San Francisco and Georgia and will be seeing St. John’s, Penn State, and Pittsburgh in the next two weeks. Here’s a ranking of which teams stand out the most as the top landing spots.

5. Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs lost both of its lead guards this offseason in Kario Oquendo and Terry Roberts but have done a great job at filling the spots so far. Top-100 freshman point guard Silas Demary has joined the program, along with Illinois transfer wing RJ Melendez. Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Justin Hill are also back after being in the backcourt rotation this past season.

What makes Georgia the least viable option at the moment is that they’re likely to have filled Thomasson’s spot by the time he decides. They’re reportedly in the mix for both Ole Miss transfer Amaree Abram, along with Vandy transfer and leading scorer, Tyrin Lawrence. If they land either in the next couple of weeks, it’ll be hard to see the Niagara guard having a starting role.
