4. Ty-Laur Johnson – No. 84

Johnson is a 6’0 point guard from the New York area that’s known for being one of the top-scoring guards in the class, averaging over 30 ppg in high school. An argument can be made that he’s an undersized shooting guard that brings the ball up the court but Johnson can be an effective passer and ball-handler over time.

The four-star guard originally picked Memphis over Seton Hall and NC State months ago and he was set to play alongside five-star guard Mikey Williams. However, a recent offseason arrest has his status with the team in jeopardy. You’d think that would open things up for Johnson with the program but just days ago, he and the Tigers parted ways as well.

There are a ton of teams that need ball-handlers out there, especially ones that have offensive concerns. Looking at the previous finalists, both of them could use Johnson right now. Seton Hall is desperate for offense and while they have Kadary Richmond, could use Johnson as a scoring upgrade over Femi Odukale.

As for NC State, they’re reportedly looking at Alabama transfer and former five-star prospect, Jaden Bradley. If they don’t land him, they could be in position for Johnson this time around. Ironically, that’s who Memphis has been looking to add to its backcourt as well this offseason.
