9. Darius Carr – No. 109

Carr is a 6’3 combo guard that primarily plays on-ball. Originally from Los Angeles, the quality athlete was someone that had a quiet first recruitment but then was down to three teams; New Mexico State, Mississippi State, and St. John’s.

In the end, Carr picked the Aggies, which was a historical commitment for the WAC program to land a top-100 talent. Entering this past season, New Mexico State was one of the more consistent programs in NCAA Basketball, winning around 30 games and typically making the NCAA Tournament.

However, after a miserable season that featured multiple off-the-court incidents that resulted in the season being canceled in February and head coach Greg Heiar losing his job. Obviously, Carr wasn’t going to stick around, de-committing around that time, and has since been a free agent. It’s a huge loss for the program, who’ll be rebuilding from scratch going forward.

Teams such as Illinois and Louisville have reportedly reached out since, while previous finalists, St. John’s and Mississippi State, both could still use Carr. Of the two, the Bulldogs still have their head coach and could be viewed as a favorite to win the next recruitment.
