Miami Hurricanes
The Hurricanes were the darlings of the transfer portal a year ago, landing both Njiel Pack and Norchad Omier. It was the pickups needed to give the program its first-ever Final Four appearance. But now, the team has to find ways to make up for two key losses.
One of them is Isaiah Wong, who announced his decision to go pro. The guard was not only the leading scorer and heart and soul of the team but Wong also won ACC Player of the Year this past season. Another big loss was Jordan Miller, who had a breakout final season as the spacing combo forward that helped opened things up for everyone.
Double-double machine Norchad Omier has also entered the NBA Draft process but all expectations are that he’s coming back. He, Pack, and Wooga Poplar is a good trio but there’s a clear lack of depth behind them. And not only have they not landed a transfer, but Miami has also been losing out on some recruiting battles. Northwestern transfer forward Robbie Beran picked Virginia Tech over them, while Dayton wing Mustapha Amzil went with New Mexico over them as Hurricanes.
It’s a complete 180 from last offseason and there’s a chance that the NIL isn’t as good at Miami these days. They have room available so they can add a starter or two but if they can’t, expect a step back for them.
