Gonzaga Bulldogs

It was a good past week for the Bulldogs, landing Nembhard from Creighton. With him and starter Nolan Hickman, that’s a good backcourt to work with for next season. But the team doesn’t have a ton of depth behind them if Malachi Smith decides to stay in the NBA Draft. There’s also Steele Venters, a transfer wing from Eastern Washington that’s also in the process.

It’s a longshot but it’s important to note that R-Jay Barsh, a new assistant at Gonzaga, was with Dennis a couple of years ago at Boise State. There’s a connection there and if the Bulldogs are looking for another guard, they could want to reach out just in case.

Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini have landed two guards/wings so far in the portal process in Justin Harmon and Marcus Domask. Both are solid perimeter players but aren’t true point guards. And that was the obvious position of weakness for the program last season, as star guard Terrence Shannon (who is also in the draft process) played that role.

Illinois is going to be the early favorite for Dennis, thanks to having a clear need for a starting point guard, as well as being the defacto hometown option, assuming that DePaul isn’t going to play a factor. He’s exactly what they need and is a perfect fit, assuming that they get it done.
