NCAA Basketball: 14 teams that could use Toledo transfer guard Rayj Dennis
Oregon Ducks
It’s been an interesting offseason for the Ducks in the transfer portal, landing a pair of guards in Kario Oquendo and Devan Cambridge. They have veteran center N’Faly Dante back for one more season, while also bringing in a pair of five-star freshmen wings in Mookie Cook and Kwame Evans.
Oregon’s point guard situation is a question. Top-30 incoming freshman Jackson Shelstad is joining the team while also being a reported finalist for top-40 prospect, Bronny James. But if rumored favorite USC wins out, the Ducks could use a veteran guard to run the offense and make life easier for the wings.
Providence Friars
New head coach Kim English has had a great offseason to this point. He not only kept the top two remaining players around (Bryce Hopkins and Devin Carter), but the coach also brought with him a trio of former George Mason players along with him, including big man Josh Oduro. What they don’t have is a proven point guard after Jared Bynum transferred over to Stanford and Alyn Breed is currently suspended due to an offseason arrest.
Providence does have top-50 combo guard Garway Dual joining for next season, while freshman Jayden Pierre could be a breakout player to watch after limited minutes this year. They were after Cal Baptist transfer Taran Armstrong but he’s potentially going pro. If adding a veteran ball-handler is still a priority, Dennis would be an ideal final addition to the roster.
