NCAA Basketball: 14 teams that could use Toledo transfer guard Rayj Dennis
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns recently added Virginia center transfer Kadin Shedrick to round out the frontcourt but all eyes need to be on the backcourt, which has taken some heavy losses. They knew they were losing Sir’Jabari Rice and Marcus Carr via eligibility but the outgoing transfers of Rowan Brumbaugh and former five-star prospect Arterio Morris weren’t expected.
Making matters worse, Texas also lost top-30 incoming freshman AJ Johnson to the pro ranks, leaving them with essentially Tyrese Hunter. They’re reportedly in the mix for Max Abmas of Oral Roberts but if they miss out on him, need to pivot to another top guard. Dennis could fit that mold and replace Carr as the new lead guard.
UCLA Bruins
As expected, four-year point guard Tyger Campbell is leaving the team. They also are without leading scorer Jaime Jaquez and also have three other starters in the NBA Draft process as well, most notably, Amari Bailey. If Bailey is gone, that leaves a pair of unproven young guards in Will McClendon and Dylan Andrews to run the offense.
Right now, UCLA has brought in Utah shooting guard transfer Lazar Stefanović and got five-star guard/wing Ilane Fibleuil to commit from France. But depending on who remains in the draft, this team could get extremely young quick and would be in need of a veteran to help stabilize the roster. It would also be a great chance for Dennis to play in Los Angeles and boost his profile on a national program.
