Sunday marked a significant day on the NCAA basketball calendar. Underclassmen had until April 23 to declare for the 2023 NBA Draft.

They aren’t locked into those decisions, though. As they feel out the draft process, any of them can decide the timing isn’t right and return to school. They have until June 1 to withdraw from the draft and maintain their college eligibility.

Many will not do so. They see an NBA Draft selection in their future and the opportunities and riches that come with it. Perhaps they just don’t want to deal with the other factors that come with returning to school, like academics.

NIL has changed this landscape forever, though. Lottery picks will probably always earn higher than college students, but some might be better off becoming a local legend and getting that sponsorship money than to spent years toiling away in Eastern Europe.

There are a handful of players who would almost certainly benefit from returning to school. Maybe it’s a chance to secure the NIL bag or a legacy that will be difficult to match in local lore. Maybe it’s an opportunity to improve one’s draft standing and take another shot at it when Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson aren’t sucking up all the air.

The clock is officially ticking for the large number of underclassmen seeing NBA dreams in their eyes.

Here are five players that should reconsider their draft standing.
