NCAA Basketball: 5 NBA Draft declarers who should return to school
F Arthur Kaluma, Creighton
Arthur Kaluma is headed to the NBA Draft after two years at Creighton. Regardless on if he sticks, there is some sense that Kaluma is done with the Bluejays one way or another.
Kaluma had a chance to be a first-round draft pick after breaking out last year, particularly during the NCAA Tournament. Kaluma stayed with Creighton for his sophomore season, however, taking a role in one of the program’s best-ever rosters.
The wing improved as a sophomore, averaging 11.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He was inconsistent, though, to a maddening degree at times. NBA teams will want him to demonstrate that he’s worthy of being on the court regularly.
It makes sense for Kaluma to refine his game a bit more at the college level, since he already has an NBA-ready body, just not NBA-ready skills. Then again, that’s what he did last year and his stock didn’t improve as a result.
Regardless of what he does, it’s hard to envision Kaluma going back to Creighton at this point. On social media, he thanked everyone for an “unforgettable two years” and said he “will cherish the memories and relationships for a lifetime.” Doesn’t sound like someone planning to return.
Still, he might be better off for it, otherwise, he shouldn’t expect to be taken until late and toil around the G League next year.
