NCAA Basketball: Top 25 uncommitted players in 2023 transfer portal
By Bryan Mauro
22. Femi Odukale – Guard
Former Team: Seton Hall Pirates
Odukale is one of my favorite players to watch in all of college basketball. He is originally from Brooklyn and plays a hard-nosed style. He is a great defender and good passer but is limited offensively. The guard started every game for the Pirates this past season and now enters the portal for the third time after transferring from Pitt the first time. Given that the NCAA is going to require a waiver the guard will likely have to sit out. His perimeter defense and ability to run the offense is what earned him a spot on this list. Odukale has been tight-lipped about his recruitment this time around but I’m sure we will find out soon enough where he is going to land.
21. Jaden Bradley – Guard
Former Team: Alabama Crimson Tide
Bradley was allegedly involved in the scandal at Alabama this season. He was never suspended, and no charges were ever filed. It doesn’t appear that any of that is going to cast a black cloud over his recruitment as he already has plenty of suitors. The point guard is a former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American. He averaged 6 points and 3 rebounds playing 31 games and starting 22 of them.
He did fall out of the rotation at the end of last year, which led to his decision to transfer. Every team is going to need a point guard and there are not many in the portal with the overall talent that Bradley has. NC State and Memphis are firmly in the mix for the former Mcdonald’s All-American.
19. Andre Curbelo – Guard
Former Team: St. John’s
Curbelo needs to be on this list for talent alone. He is going to be highly disputed given how bad the last two seasons have gone for Curbelo. After his first season at Illinois, we were all crowning him as the point guard in the NCAA. Then the second season hit and with that came turnovers, visible defiance towards his coaches and teammates, the three-point shot was virtually nonexistent. When Curbelo transferred to St. John’s there were questions about how he would coexist in a backcourt that already had another point guard. Curbelo is a great defender and when he is engaged is one of the most talented players in the country.
The point guard from Puerto Rico still has a lot of great basketball left in him but will need to pick the right situation. It is likely going to be a team that he will be able to be the man and not have to play second fiddle. If he can find that he will do very well. The question is will that be at a power conference school?
