10. RJ Luis – UMass Minutemen

2022-23 season stats: 11.5 ppg and 4.6 rpg

Recruiting battle: St. John’s vs Louisville vs Texas A&M

Luis was one of the few UMass players that were able to play all of last season, averaging in double figures and shooting 46% from the field. He had four games of at least 20 points in the latter half of the year, including 23 points and seven rebounds, and 31 points in games against Duquesne.

What makes Luis an intriguing prospect is that he’s a 6’7 guard/wing with three years of eligibility left. So wherever he lands at, that team will have him in the rotation going forward. And Luiz has breakout potential as a power conference talent and will have a sizeable role.

There are three programs that have gotten visits from Luis. The two highest profiled were St. John’s and Louisville, two rebuilding teams that could use a guard. He could play for a Hall of Famer in Rick Pitino in the Red Storm or a Cardinals team where Luis could end up being the lead guard out the gate.

But don’t overlook the Aggies in the SEC. They lost a couple of key guards this offseason but bring back leading scorer Wade Taylor. Having Luis would give them plenty of size and an offensive boost. Louisville has been hardest on the former Minuteman and losing out would sting since they’re still in need of guards.
