Coaching changes are a very big part of NCAA Basketball each offseason. There are usually around 50 moves made either via firing or having to replace someone that took another job. And as a result, many high school prospects that had originally committed to one coach are faced with a decision to make around this month.
The Texas Longhorns are a great example of this. Head coach Chris Beard was first suspended, then ultimately fired during the season for an off-the-court arrest. He’s since taken the job at Ole Miss. His replacement, interim coach Rodney Terry, was given the full-time job after leading the program to an Elite 8 appearance last month.
But while he’s been able to land both Max Abmas and Kadin Shedrick, he hasn’t been able to keep the recruiting class that committed to Chris Beard. Top-30 combo guard AJ Johnson recently announced his intentions to go pro instead of college, and now Ron Holland has parted ways with the program as well.
It’s a massive loss for Texas and a potential gain for someone in NCAA Basketball. Holland is a consensus five-star prospect and ranked top-10 overall in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s a 6’8 forward from Duncanville, Texas, and a McDonald’s High School All-American. His size, athleticism, versatility, and overall scoring ability make him a bonafide pro prospect and someone that can be a game-changer for any team.
There are going to be a ton of programs that’ll be interested in Holland but not all will make sense. Here’s a power ranking of the 10 best options for the five-star prospect to consider.
