Big East Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season
By John Makuch
1. UConn Huskies
The Huskies have earned this spot after going out and winning a national championship for the state of Connecticut.
And what helps Dan Hurley out a ton, is this team shows no signs at all of slowing down, and that is seen in their recruiting.
Their big get was five-star combo guard Stephon Castle who ranks ninth in the nation according to 247sports, and this team has the fourth overall class in the entire nation.
UConn also has three other four-stars and a three-star all having signed letters of intent to play for the reigning national champions.
Adama Sanogo no longer being here hurts the Huskies, but they have the replacement who will be expected to make a huge jump
Donovan Clingan was the perfect sidekick to Sanogo during this championship run, the 7’2 freshman averaged just under seven points per game with 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
By the way, those stats were in just 13.1 minutes per game.
His presence on both ends of the floor is something all Husky fans should be excited about heading into this upcoming season.
This team also loses Andre Jackson Jr. and Jordan Hawkins to the NBA Draft, but they do keep enough of the core to remain the team to beat when you talk about the Big East.
While they may not be as good as last year’s team, having the advantage they have at home, as well as the recruits they will bring in, Hurley could be building a Big East dynasty for years to come.
