Big East Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season
By John Makuch
9. Georgetown Hoyas
And now here comes the Hoyas of Georgetown in the post-Ewing era with Ed Cooley, one of the best coaches in the nation.
After bringing the Providence Friars to new heights, Cooley now looks to do the same at Georgetown and bring this program back to its historic and successful status.
Last year this team was noncompetitive, but programs can turn around quickly, and Cooley has already begun that process here this season.
In terms of transfers, Cooley has made some major pickups here in the offseason. Rowan Brumbaugh is coming in from Texas as a four-star rated guard along with Jayden Epps from Illinois who also has a four-star rating according to 247sports.
They also picked up a solid forward in Dontrez Styles who comes in from UNC. For this team to go from the doldrums of the Big East Conference to bringing in highly ranked recruits goes to show that Cooley has already started the quick rebuild this team expects to go through.
This team also almost had Eddie Lampkin Jr. from TCU, but he ended up with Colorado in what would have been a huge get for this program.
Georgetown could be even higher on this list if they can get another transfer or two, they lost some impact players from the old roster including Primo Spears and Qudus Wahab, but it is all about finding replacements here for Cooley.
