New Mexico State Basketball was embroiled in scandals all last season

The Aggies as a program had about as rough of a season off the court as could have been had. Two different scandals in the span of four months forced university officials to pull the plug on the Aggies’ season in February.

In November a member of the basketball team was lured off campus and was allegedly involved in an altercation that resulted in the fatal shooting death of someone who attended a rival school. Mike Peake, the Aggie involved in the incident was also injured but hasn’t been charged as a result of the incident.

In February a police report brought to light some serious allegations involving hazing at the school. According to the police report, the hazing allegations included false imprisonment, harassment, and criminal sexual conduct, which led university leaders to say, “Enough is enough” this season, and just like that New Mexico State’s season was over.

Unfortunately for all the victims, the end of the season doesn’t mean the end of their grief or healing. But, from a basketball perspective, the program can try and move on and better themselves and try and get back to that storied program that serves as a sense of pride for those in Las Cruces.
