NCAA Basketball: 10 teams with most to lose with pending 2023 NBA Draft decisions
2. UCLA Bruins
Players to watch: Tyger Campbell, Amari Bailey, Jaylen Clark, Jaime Jaquez, and Adem Bona
There’s no team with more players in the NBA Draft process than the Bruins, who could lose all five starters from last season. Going from most likely gone to least likely first are seniors Tyger Campbell and Jaime Jaquez, two long-time stars with nothing left to prove really.
Entering the postseason, Jaylen Clark was easily the most likely to leave. The Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and quality two-way wing was a projected 1st round draft pick before suffering an Achilles injury. He won’t be healthy during the process and that could be what drops him down and give him a reason to stay for a year.
Then there are the freshmen, Bona and Bailey. The guard was average in the regular season but after Clark got injured, took over as a leading scorer and showed his potential. Was it enough to be a “one-and-done” player? And Bona was the least impactful player on offense but was on the all-defensive team and is the kind of rim-protecting big that plays in the NBA.
All of them have a reason to come back as well as reasons to stay. There’s not a lot elsewhere on the roster so depending on who remains in the NBA Draft, UCLA could be in the rare position of looking from the outside in for the preseason NCAA Basketball rankings.
