No. 6 Hunter Dickinson transfer option – Georgetown Hoyas

For the newer NCAA Basketball fans, the idea of Georgetown being a former powerhouse in the sport is a fantasy. But this is a program that dominated in the 80s and 90s and even was making the NCAA Tournament regularly in the past 20 years. They’ve been down for a while and extra down in the past two years but have turned things over, hiring Coach Ed Cooley from Providence.

The Hoyas are arguably the most prestigious program in the DMV area and it would be an extremely compelling storyline for Dickinson to come home. And this will get brought up a couple of times later on but the center position is wide open for him, with 30-35 mpg available now that Qudus Wahab is gone.

But that’s where the positives end for the Hoyas. They effectively lost the entire roster from last season. And while that’s not a bad thing since they went 7-25 last season, they’ve yet to make any quality additions to the roster that are good enough to make the NCAA Tournament. Jayden Epps was okay as a freshman at Illinois but neither Texas transfer guard Roman Brumbaugh nor UNC forward Dontrez Styles are proven at the power conference level.

Had Georgetown added more talent this offseason, I could buy them as a real contender. However, even with Dickinson, they’re a projected bubble team at best. And if that was what he wanted, the big man could’ve stayed at Michigan.
