No. 3 Hunter Dickinson transfer option – Villanova Wildcats

Four of the five NCAA Basketball programs make clear sense. You have the “local” teams (Georgetown and Maryland) and the national powerhouses (Kansas and Kentucky) in the mix. But the darkhorse of the group is Villanova, who does have the prestige to get involved and even more, the motivation.

After going 17-17 overall in the first season for Coach Kyle Neptune, the program has been determined to build the roster back into contention. They first retained their best player, guard Justin Moore, and added a pair of quality transfers in TJ Bamba from Washington State and Hakim Hart from Maryland to bolster the starting lineup.

Villanova is still waiting on forward Eric Dixon’s decision but if he returns, they can make a pairing with he and Dickinson work in the frontcourt. That’s not the biggest issue. It’s Coach Neptune, who has two total years as a head coach in D-I hoops and struggled in his debut this past season.

When you rank the six head coaches in his list, Neptune is a clear 6th. That’s a big risk to take if you’re Dickinson when it comes to your playing career. If Jay Wright was still around, it would be an ideal situation. But without him, the Wildcats are a good, but not an elite option.
