No. 2 Hunter Dickinson transfer option – Maryland Terrapins

If Dickinson’s decision came down to wanting to play closer to home, Maryland would be the heavy favorite over Georgetown. And that’s simply due to the roster construction and the Big Ten program having a group ready to compete for the NCAA Tournament and beyond.

An underrated part of the Terrapins is that they have arguably the best point guard in the entire group of six teams. Jahmir Young is back for a 5th year after leading the team with 15.8 ppg and 3.1 apg and is an experienced and proven lead guard. They did lose two other guards in Hakim Hart and Donald Carey but do bring back the starting frontcourt of Donta Scott and Julian Reese.

The slight issue is that Reese is a big man that plays to the basket and isn’t a threat outside. So in this scenario, Dickinson would have to play more of the four offensive and space the floor next to him. Plus, Scott would either have to awkwardly play the three-spot or come off the bench and there’s a chance that he transfers instead of doing that.

Still, the potential of going close to home and playing with a good head coach (Kevin Willard) and a point guard he can trust in Young are selling points the other schools can’t offer. So even with the potential clanky frontcourt fit, look for Maryland to be clearly in the mix. There’s just one school that simply makes too much sense.
