Notre Dame got some great news on Tuesday when it was announced that 2023 recruit in Carey Booth would be attending the University of Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame basketball program picked up a big-time commitment on Tuesday when consensus top 100 prospect in Carey Booth announced his commitment to the Irish. Booth was the 79th-rated prospect according to Rivals, 88th by 247 Sports, and 57th over at ESPN.

Booth was a one-time signee to Penn State where the new head coach of Notre Dame in Micah Shrewsberry was at before taking the head coaching job in South Bend. This just proves that Booth really believes in Shrewsberry’s vision as a coach and somebody he really wants to play for at the college level.

This is a huge get for Shrewsberry and the rest of the staff for the Irish. It is a huge addition because Notre Dame lost their top seven players from last year’s team to either graduation or the transfer portal. With Booth on the roster, they now sit at seven scholarship players. Booth will join guards Markus Burton who is a local product from the South Bend area, and Braeden Shrewsberry at the moment in the 2023 recruiting class. We will get to the familiarity in that last name in a bit.

The consensus four-star prospect in Booth should step in right away and get major playing time at one of the forward positions for Shrewsberry in year one. Booth is big, lanky, and has an athletic build standing at 6’10 at the moment. He will only get stronger with getting into the weight room, and the team’s strength and conditioning program.

Booth seems like a big that will fit right into Shrewsberry’s offensive system. He isn’t just a player who can beat you around the rim. The power forward in Booth can also step out past the 3-point line and knock it down consistently as well.

This is the second commit in the last two days for the Notre Dame program. Yesterday they got their first high school recruit in the Shrewsberry era when Braeden Shrewsberry committed to Notre Dame. It is pretty easy to figure out, but he is the son of head coach Micah Shrewsberry. The 2023 guard in Shrewsberry followed his dad to South Bend which was a no-brainer and expected.

There are rumors out there that one more 2023 commit may be joining Shrewsberry, and Booth shortly as well. My guess is it probably is going to be the 2023 guard in Logan Imes. The Indiana native in Imes was signed with Penn State, but after Shrewsberry took the Notre Dame job he asked to be released from his NLI and it was granted.

This upcoming year might be rough for Notre Dame on the court, but with how Shrewsberry and the rest of the staff are attacking the recruiting trail by bringing in guys like Booth and others the future is bright for the Irish.
