Memphis Basketball: 6 guards to target after missing out on Jaden Bradley
Rayj Dennis – Toledo Rockets
2022-23 season stats: 19.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 5.8 apg
Dennis is a late entrant to the transfer portal, leading Toledo in both scoring and passing and winning MAC Player of the Year. He had 17 games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 32 against Ball State and a 12-assist game in a win over Oakland.
It was thought that Illinois was the clear favorite for Dennis when he entered the portal but his recruitment seems to be more open than that. He’s the top point guard available right now and after missing out on Bradley, would be a great opportunity for Memphis Basketball to make a compelling case to try and sneak in and land him.
Jordan Dingle – Penn Quakers
2022-23 season stats: 23.4 ppg and 2.3 apg
Dingle was second in the entire country in scoring and was the runaway Ivy League Player of the Year this past season. The 6’3 guard shot 46% from the field and 36% from three-point range on nearly eight attempts a game. Dingle went for 30+ a couple of times, including a career-high 33 points on 7/9 shooting on the road at Columbia.
Dingle did have a couple of 6-assist games this past season but ultimately is a two-guard. But he’s someone that would have a leading role at Memphis and after losing so much offensive production from this past season, could use as much scoring from the portal to remain a contender in the AAC and nationally. His recruitment is wide open as well so maybe he’s the big splash Coach Penny Hardaway tries for.
