UCLA Bruins
The Bruins are in limbo at the moment, as all five starters are currently in the NBA Draft process. Among the frontcourt players, forward Jaime Jaquez is very likely not to come back, while freshman center Adem Bona is more 50/50. There’s a clear need for a frontcourt player that has offensive potential since neither Kenneth Nwuba nor Mac Etienne is more bench players.
Playing in Los Angeles has its obvious perks and depending on who comes back, Nelson could easily be the focal point of the offense. And playing for head coach Mick Cronin and his defensive ability can help round out the big man from North Dakota for the next level.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
New head coach Grant McCasland is known for being one of the best developers in NCAA Basketball from his recent years at North Texas. He now goes to the Big 12 and has a need for talent, especially inside now that Fardaws Aimaq and Daniel Batcho have transferred out.
Playing in the Big 12 would be big for Nelson from a developmental standpoint and he’d be the focal point of the frontcourt and play next to a quality young guard in Pop Isaacs. It’s a risky move but Texas Tech needs to make a big splash to remain viable in the conference and Nelson would be that guy.
