Amaree Abram (Georgia Tech)
Let’s begin our list with an exciting match of player and coach. After moving on from Josh Pastner, Georgia Tech made a big splash by hiring longtime NBA guard and former Arizona Wildcat Damon Stoudamire to be its head coach. Stoudamire left his job as an assistant with the Boston Celtics to turn around the Rambling Wreck, and his decision to bring aboard former Ole Miss guard Amaree Abram to help run his new team has turned some heads.
Abram had an uneven freshman year at Ole Miss, but he has the potential to be an impact player as a sophomore in the ACC. Ranked by On3.com as the 56th-best transfer in the country, the point guard has good size at 6’4″, and the athleticism to run the break and defend.
Have I mentioned that Abram is a lefty? Being coached by Stoudamire, one of the better left-handed point guards in NBA history, should help elevate Abram’s game drastically. He averaged 8 points and 21 minutes per game last year in Oxford, but he could be a primary reason Georgia Tech challenges for the NCAA Tournament next year.
