NCAA Basketball North Dakota State Bison forward Grant Nelson Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports /

2. Moussa Cisse – Oklahoma State Cowboys

2022-23 season stats: 6.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.9 bpg

Like Vanover, Cisse was a former Conference Defensive Player of the Year. But the former Cowboy did his work at the Big 12 level and has been one of the top interior defenders in NCAA Basketball. He was solid this past season at both ends, including six double-doubles. One of them was a 12-point and 14-rebound game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christie.

Cisse has been in the portal for a while but the issue isn’t his talent. He’s spent two years at OK State and one year at Memphis and barring him being able to graduate would need a waiver as a two-time transfer in order to be eligible for next season. It’s hard for teams to bring him on without knowing what the NCAA will do but he’s worth the risk with his defense alone.

1. Grant Nelson – North Dakota State Bison

2022-23 season stats: 17.9 ppg and 9.3 rpg

Nelson is one of the top NBA Draft prospects in the transfer portal so there’s a real chance that he’s off the board for a different reason this month. Still, teams are going to make a run for the versatile big man after a breakout junior season.

Nelson had 35 points and 16 rebounds against Western Illinois, along with a career-high 36 points against North Dakota. Plus, the 6’11 forward went for 20 points and 22 rebounds versus South Dakota in the conference tournament. As an elite scorer and also good defender (was named All-Summit League defense), Nelson is now the new top frontcourt player available from the portal.
