Updates on past St. John’s Basketball targets

Noah Thomasson

The 19 ppg scoring guard from Niagara had included a list of five teams, with the Red Storm being one of them. He recently finished up a visit with Pittsburgh and is set to make a decision on May 10th. Right now, the view is that Georgia and Pittsburgh are the teams to beat, with St. John’s fading in the back at this point.

Mackenzie Mgbako

He’s not a transfer but having a top-10 overall prospect considering your program is a fairly big deal. Mgbako is a 6’9 combo forward that de-committed from Duke a few weeks ago. He has a final four list that includes the Red Storm. Mgbako is visiting Indiana and could decide within the next week.

RJ Luis

The 6’7 guard is reportedly down to a trio of teams, including Texas A&M and Louisville, along with St. John’s. Luis was an impact freshman at UMass and has three years of eligibility and would be a nice building block for the Red Storm. He decides on Sunday so we should know his decision.

Grant Nelson and Aziz Bandaogo

These are two of the newer entrants to the transfer portal that are frontcourt players St. John’s reached out to. Nelson is an elite offensive forward from North Dakota State that everyone is also after. Bandaogo was the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and averaged a double-double at Utah Valley but may have to sit out a year if he doesn’t get a waiver. That would actually work for the Red Storm so he can replace Joel Soriano at center a year from now.
