Texas Tech Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets Keshad Johnson and Warren Washington
Texas Tech Basketball commitments
Darrion Williams (Nevada)
The loss of Jaylon Tyson certainly hurts Texas Tech but they have another talent combo forward that’s a proven product coming in. Williams is a 6’6 forward that comes from Nevada and was a surprise impact freshman. He averaged 7.6 ppg and a team-leading 7.3 rpg in 30 mpg as a starter. Williams was named the Mountain West Rookie of the Year as well.
Williams had 10 double-digit rebounding games, along with a couple of big scoring performances. His best was a 16-point, 8-rebound, and 5-assist game against Fresno State. The wing is an underrated shooter as well, making 36% of his three-point attempts. Williams is athletic enough to play and guard multiple positions in the Big 12 and will be a nice building block for the program in the future.
Chance McMillian (Grand Canyon)
The 6’2 guard came off the bench in the first two years but broke out as a junior this past season. McMillian averaged 10.9 ppg and 2.1 apg on 49% shooting overall and an impressive 44% from three-point range. His scoring really picked up in the latter half of the year, including 24 points and four assists against Stephen F. Austin on 6/7 from deep.
McMillian will be going from the WAC to the Big 12, no big feat for a transfer. But he’ll have the opportunity to play primarily off the bench next season next to Issacs and if he can outplay both D’maurian Williams and Kerwin Walton, will be a part of the rotation.
